Volunteer Opportunities

At Blue Spruce Community, we believe that one of the most critical factors in building a successful community for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) is creating a variety of engaging programs and services. These programs allow residents to participate in activities that are not only fun and educational but also help foster personal growth and community engagement.

As we strive to offer a range of opportunities, we need a dedicated network of volunteers to support these initiatives. Volunteers play a vital role in making these programs a reality. Whether it's leading a group activity, offering guidance in life skills, or helping with arts and crafts, your involvement can make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents at The Grove at Cottonwood and other future Blue Spruce communities.

Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities

Volunteers will be instrumental in supporting a wide array of programs that provide enrichment, learning, and recreational opportunities to residents. Some of the activities that volunteers will help facilitate include:

  • Attending Concert or Sports Programs: Helping residents enjoy live events in the community.
  • Basic Finance and Budgeting: Assisting residents with learning and applying important life skills.
  • Dining Room Coordination: Supporting meal preparation and dining experiences.
  • Games and Fun Night: Organizing and facilitating enjoyable social events.
  • Arts and Crafts Night: Leading creative workshops and activities.
  • Dance Night: Coordinating and participating in dance events.
  • Movie Night: Assisting with organizing movie viewings and creating a fun atmosphere.
  • Nutritional Training and Program Development: Supporting education on healthy eating and nutrition.
  • Recreational Sports: Organizing and leading inclusive physical activities.
  • Community Partners: Collaborating with local businesses and organizations to enrich programming.

When and Where Volunteer Opportunities Will Take Place

Volunteer opportunities will primarily occur during evenings and weekends to ensure they align with residents' schedules and allow for maximum participation. The Activities Program will be scheduled regularly, and volunteers will be encouraged to sign up for shifts that best fit their availability.

Volunteers can expect to engage in activities either at The Grove at Cottonwood or other future Blue Spruce communities, helping to bring our programs to life and creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all residents.

How to Get Involved

Volunteers with relevant experience and an interest in working with individuals in the I/DD community will be highly valued. The Executive Director will work with volunteers to define specific roles, develop activity schedules, and promote volunteer opportunities within the community. Volunteers will be trained as needed to ensure they are comfortable and effective in their roles.

If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of individuals with I/DD, we encourage you to apply as a volunteer and help us create a vibrant and supportive community.  Please contact; executivedirector@bluesprucecommunity.org.
