As we embark on this journey, we recoginize that indivuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities ( I/DD) have diverse abilities, aspirations, and daily needs.  Our role is to collaborate closely with care managers, property managers and developers to ensure that each individual's personal care plan is honored and achieved.

Beyond daily support, we are committed to providing a vibrant range of social, educational, nutrional, recreational, and fitness opportunities during evenings and weekends to, helping residents stay active, engaged, and connected to their community.

While our impact is just beginning, we look forward to sharing the stories of the inividuals we serve at The Grive at Cottonwood.  These stories will showcase the difference our supporters make in building a community where people of all communites can thrive.

Over time, we will share these people with you on this page in order for you to gain a better understanding of the people we are focused on helping and how we will ensure they can attain their goals for their life.

David’s story -and his next chapter

Our son David is 36, social, athletic and hardworking. He loves all sports, is willing to try almost anything, loves being busy, and enjoys being with others. He’s out in the community daily working two part time jobs and taking public transportation. He also has Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) which affects his ability to communicate clearly, advocate for himself, perform some daily living tasks, and understand finances.

While David has some limitations, his biggest hope for the next chapter of his life is to move out of the family home and live on his own or with a roommate. And since his dad and I are approaching 70, we know the time has come to find David a place he can call home in a community of his peers with support and activities he can access.

That place is The Grove at Cottonwood - an affordable housing community designed with intention for people with I/DD. With supported services on site and available from his waiver services, David can get the balance he needs between support and independence, inclusion in the community and a network of peers, the ability to live his life as he would like and guidance from natural supports.

It will be hard for us to let go of David and have him live away from home. But that is his dream, his right and choice. We are excited to use the next few years to support David as he gets settled in an independent environment with assistance and community.
