Blue Spruce Community will consist of 36 independent and secure apartments: 30 will be designated for people with IDD and 6 for staff/community advisors. There will be 26 apartments for singles and 4 available for people that would rather share an apartment or for those that might require full time care support.
The first floor of the three story apartment building will have secure access with a staffed front desk, optional dining area with a healthy menu, four 2-bedroom apartments, mailboxes and a community center for social activities chosen by the tenants.
The second and third floors will have single apartments with a lounge or small social areas for gatherings by the tenants and their guests. Each apartment will have a kitchen, living/dining area and a bathroom.
The apartment plans also include space for outdoor athletic activities and a community garden. The apartment tenants will have easy access to public transit.
The tenants will live independently, engage in the community, pursue their employment opportunities and still be close to their peers when they choose. Having a long-term living situation will provide the stability required to excel in other elements of their lives.
The Blue Spruce Community will coordinate optional social activities for the tenants and seek to develop an employer network for people who want to work. Resident Advisors will provide assistance to the tenants during the days/evenings and weekends that ensure their plan of care is being achieved.
